Landmann 82434 8-Foot Firewood Log Rack with Fitted Cover Review

Landmann 82434 8-Foot Firewood Log Rack with Fitted Cover

Keep your firewood high and dry and store logs neatly outdoors with one of our firewood racks. Log racks keep insects and rodents out of your wood and protect your firewood from rot. Stacked firewood dries faster since the air can circulate around and between the pieces. Includes a fitted cover. Only requires a wrench to assemble.

We live in the North East and our old log rack cover only had Velcro closures. The wind and snow always got under the cover and blew it around a lot. Also, the material was a much thinner plastic. The previous one lasted only two seasons as the ice got the best of it and ripped the top part.

WE LOOKED AT SOMETHING MORE DURABLE. After 2 months owning the Landmann Heavy Durty Log Rack Cover, it really lives up to our expectations. We give it five stars because

- It provides easy access to the wood via three sturdy zippers
- The material is thick
- We don't think it will rip
- It makes our log rack look need and tidy
- It stays in place: we just had a big rain storm and it hardly moved - our wood is dry
- We expect it to last for a many seasons
- A great price for the value

I have to agree, that it did not immediate cover all the wood when we ordered our 1/2 cord, but we didn't mind - one row later it fit nicely. We tie the bottom Velcro strips around the legs of the log cover to give it extra support.

Hope this review was helpful.

P.S. Winter 2011/2012
The first one held up so well in that really harsh winter of 2010/2011 that we decided to buy another one (it's black again but now has the logo "Landman" stamped on it - see comments). We also bought another 8'x8' firewood rack which included a cover - however, that particular cover is NOT of THIS quality, it's simply flimsy plastic and didn't last a month. Hence we bought this one again. We have now replaced covers for all of our three log racks with this heavy duty cover and have no qualms about it!

Pleasant Hearth FN-5701 Fenwick Fireplace Glass Door, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Medium

This Pleasant Hearth Fenwick Fireplace Glass Door reduces heat loss up the chimney by 90-percent when the fireplace is not in use, plus adds style and function. When you're not enjoying a fire, simply close the smoked tempered safety glass to minimize heat and cool air loss. Fireplace openings 30-Inch to 37-Inch wide and 25-1/2-Inch to 32-1/2-Inch high. For masonry fireplaces only. Not for use on pre-fabricated fireplaces. U.S.A.

Stately, high quality fireplace doors
Purchased the Pleasant Hearth Fenwick fireplace doors in size large after reading many 5 star reviews. The opening (outside dimension of the tempered glass doors) is 36" so it fits my 36" wide fireplace nicely (go with the largest size possible so that you have a larger viewing and easier access to the inside of your fireplace (also the trim covers the brick face of the fireplace and the more coverage the better for insulation and asthetic purposes). They are heavy and high quality -- very solid. The color is a dark oil rubbed bronze and the quality of the finish is excellent. The quality is surprisingly good for the money. The product also comes with strips of insualtion that fit inside the open areas behind the trim. You can certainly add more (R-19), but it isn't necessary. Installation is done by attaching two brackets to the lintel (flat metal bar that is at the top and inside of the fireplace). Ours was a standard size (between 3" and 4" width) so installation was fairly easy (lay on your back and tighten the brackets). The screen doors work nicely and are kept closed when the fire is burning. They are magnetic and simple to use...open the left quickly and the right one also opens. There are even vent holes in the bottom that are adjustable, but we just keep them open. I highly recommend these fireplace doors. We looked at fireplace shops and other similar doors that cost about $1,800 and these doors are of the same quality. In fact, we like the arch style of these even better. 5 stars!

Cast Iron Fireplace Grate (327ML) Reviews

Cast Iron Fireplace Grate (327ML)

Sold as each. For coal or wood. One piece. Cast iron. Open ends. 27" Front, 23-3/4" Back. 14-1/2" Deep. Manufacturer number: 327ML. Country of origin: United States. Distributed by Vestal Manufacturing.

I spent some time looking online for a cast iron fireplace grate and decided on this one. I've burned about 1/8 cord of almond wood on it so far, and it's working exactly as I'd hoped it would. One reviewer commented on the legs being too short, but they are just the right height for my needs. The legs raise the grate about 4 inches off the floor of the f/p, which was high enough to clear the gas lighter pipe. The grates are far enough apart to allow the fire to get air, but not so far apart for major pieces to fall through.

GFK-160 Fireplace Blower Kit for Heat N Glo, Hearth and Home, Quadra Fire

GFK-160 Fireplace Blower Kit for Heat N Glo, Hearth and Home, Quadra Fire

The GFK-160 fan kit is a dual blower kit designed to fit a number of fireplaces, including models from Heat N Glo, Hearth & Home, and more. The blower kit includes all of the components you'll need to successfully install a blower into your fireplace for the first time. Our GFK-160 blower uses a much higher quality ball bearing motor vs. the cheaper sleeve bearing motors found in other competing blowers. The GFK-160 kit is designed using a thermostatic on/off switch, which will automatically turn the blower on and off at set temperatures. Because of this feature, the GFK-160 kit can be used with or without a designated blower wall switch. This blower is a beast. At 160+ CFM of airflow, you'll feel the difference!

I ordered this to (finally) get a fan/blower for my 14-year-old Heat N Glo fireplace. I went with this kit rather than other blowers/kits available through Amazon because I already had a finished outlet (actually two of them) under my fireplace, and this kit was completely wired and didn't require me to do anything more than get it in the right place and plug it in. I did have to use a 3-prong-to-2-prong adapter, which I bought separately at Home Depot for $0.69, but then I found that one came with this kit that is identical to the one I bought. So, please note that though the picture on Amazon seems to show a two prong plug for the power cord for this blower, it is really a grounded, 3-prong plug and the kit comes with a 3-to-2 prong adapter. I also bought a grounding pigtail wire at Home Depot and ran that from the grounding loop on the 3-to-2 adapter to a hole in the metal underside of the fireplace near the outlet, and secured that with a screw.

Total installation time for this was about 1 hour, most of which was spent vacuming out dust from under the fireplace and removing and reattaching the bottom grill part of my fireplace front, which swings opens downward and which I had to unscrew at the bottom hinges and take out to make enough clearance to get the blower under my fireplace. Also had to remove the fireplace front screen, which is very easy to do. If you get this blower, or if you're thinking of getting it, I recommend that you visit the manufacturer's website and view the video there on how to install this. [...]. I did that and hardly needed to look at the instructions that come with the product.

After I got the blower in place, attached the ground wire to the adapter and plugged it in, put the heat sensor with the magnet on the underside of my fireplace box, turned on the round dial switch that turns the fan on and off and controls the fan speed (it clicks off to the left, and when clicked on to the right the highest speed is first -- speed lowers when turned clockwise) and lit up the fireplace, this worked like a charm. I had the fireplace on for less than 5 minutes, but the warm air this moved in that short time warmed up my family room area -- my house thermostat is on a wall approx. 25 feet away from the fireplace -- so much that the air conditioning kicked on. It was a cool-ish day, and I installed this around mid-day, and I don't think the A/C came on again that afternoon. If I have any problems with this when fireplace season gets in full swing, I'll come back to update, but so far I'm very pleased and impressed with this product.

Minuteman International X670520 Black Fleur De Lys Fire back Review

Minuteman International X670520 Black Fleur De Lys Fire back

This elegant design depicts the fleur de lys, a stylized version of an iris flower, which has been used as both a decorative and a symbolic emblem by almost all civilizations throughout history, dating as far back as Mesopotamia. It is particularly associated with the French monarchy and is an enduring symbol of France. The fireback has been an indispensable part of the fireplace tradition in Europe since the 15th Century. The colonists carried this tradition to America and today you can add that touch of elegance and history to your own fireplace, while enhancing the beauty of the focal point of your room. While many people think of our Firebacks as being purely decorative, they also serve several very practical purposes. Solid cast iron firebacks absorb heat and then radiate the heat directly into the room, making the fireplace much more efficient at heating the house. They also protect firebrick, increasing the life of the firebox and helping to prevent further damage to an aging fireplace. Firebacks are designed to rest on the floor of the hearth, but fireback supports may also be used to hold the fireback upright and raise it off the hearth floor if extra height is desired. Our firebacks are solid cast iron with a matte black finish. All our firebacks are designed for use with gas logs or wood burning fireplaces.

Very pretty and works to throw heat.
It looks very nice. I wish I had ordered something a little bigger. This seems to be a hard type of item to order online, if you've never seen one in the store. It looks kind of smallish in the back of my fairly standard fireplace. This is true, even though I bought the feet to raise it up a couple of inches. It does a great job of hiding the cracked brick in the back of the fireplace, and it definitely pushes more heat into the room. People have to move away from the fire place when it gets going.
